Things to do in and around Munich

Located in the foothills of the Alps in the German state of Bavaria, Munich stretches along the banks of the Isar River and is the third largest city in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg. For over 200 years, people all over the world have been drawn to the internationally famous Oktoberfest. The Bavarian capital combines numerous contrasts: Tradition and modernity, city and nature, internationality and intimacy.

Must-sees include the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) with its two onion domes, the Marienplatz - the heart of Munich - with the city hall located there and the famous Glockenspiel, the Odeonsplatz or the legendary Hofbräuhaus as well as the Viktualienmarkt, which is not only popular with gourmets. Those interested in art and culture can visit numerous museums: the Pinakotheken, the Museum Brandhorst and the Haus der Kunst present European art history in a comprehensive spectrum. The Glyptothek, on the other hand, offers an exciting collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. Technology enthusiasts get their money's worth at the Deutsches Museum on Museum Island.

You can unwind with a walk along the Ammersee or Lake Starnberg. If you want to stay close to the city, the famous English Garden is inviting. With an area of 375 hectares, it is one of the largest parks in the world. History buffs of the Bavarian monarchy will certainly be drawn to the Nymphenburg Palace Park.

One of the most popular destinations is certainly Neuschwanstein Castle. It is located near Füssen in the south-eastern Bavarian Allgäu. The magnificent castle immediately catches the eye when you see it from the outside. Inside, it delights numerous visitors every year with its magnificent paintings, art and interior design.

The football stadium of the famous football club FC Bayern Munich is in the immediate vicinity and promises a real experience day. Whether at a football match or a stadium tour; you will be thrilled by the modern football stadium.
