Campsite presentation: Le Pin Parasol, Frankreich
Only 20 kilometres inland from famous Atlantic beaches, Camping Le Pin Parasol is located in rural peace and seclusion directly on the nature reserve of Lac du Jaunay. Two holiday worlds in one, and so it is logical that Le Pin Parasol also offers two campsites in one.
The older part of the site is a wonderfully spacious family campsite with a wide range of sports, games and fun activities, with a huge adventure playground, with children laughing, with pizza, burgers and ice cream and with a large outdoor pool lagoon and slide. In short, the name "Sensations" is very appropriately chosen for this.
Equally appropriate is the name "Nature et Sens", i.e. Nature and Senses, for the younger part of the site. This is aimed at campers who enjoy more peace and quiet, but also appreciate the amenities of upscale French cuisine, a spa, an indoor and outdoor pool, which can be combined into a 50-metre-long pool in good weather, but not a fun pool.
As a bonus, there are nice touches such as picking beds with kitchen herbs. The area is designed around an artificial pond and has its own ambitious architectural language. Vehicles use separate entrances to the two camping parts, there are also two receptions - but it is easy to switch between one part and the other on foot or by bike.
And if you can't decide and just want to spend a trial night first: There is also a separate motorhome port.
By the way, Le Pin Parasol means "the parasol pine". This ancient tree really does exist; it was already the shady meeting place for breaks during field work under this name long before the campsite was built. Le Pin Parasol is open from mid-May to mid-September. Dogs are welcome. On both parts of the site, the plots are large and green and adorned with many flowering shrubs and bushes. In the older section, the trees are naturally taller and shadier; in the newer part of the site, they still need to grow a little.
A camping resort never exists without its surroundings. This is where Le Pin Parasol scores highly: The site borders on the Lac du Jaunay reservoir, where you are not allowed to swim, but you can go fishing, pedal boating or canoeing. You can hike around it and visit many natural attractions in the immediate vicinity, such as a donkey farm with horseback riding.
The Vendée, as this region of France is called, is rich in landscapes and culture. But it can also be different. Le Puy du Fou is one of the most popular adventure parks in Europe. It follows a special concept and offers 19 thrilling attractions. However, the centrepiece has remained Le Cinéscénie, a 100-minute show on a 23-hectare outdoor stage, since its foundation in 1978. It tells the story of the region's last 700 years. It requires 2,400 actors, hundreds of horses, over 140 water fountains and numerous fireworks. Only 20 kilometres from the campsite in the other direction are wonderful sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Well-known seaside resorts such as Les Sables d'Olonne invite you to make day trips. You can also take a day trip along the lower reaches of the Loire. Although Le Pin Parasol is secluded in the countryside, it is right in the middle of it. This is also noticeable when travelling to and from the resort. From Paris, it's about 450 kilometres via Le Mans and Angers to La Roche-sur-Yon on the motorway, then only 25 kilometres of country road, which can be easily negotiated even with large vehicles. However, due to some local crossings, daylight is recommended for arrival and departure, so that you arrive safely at the part of the site you have chosen.
