Campsite presentation: Year-round camping resort Camping Čikat

Island bliss on the Adriatic: on the southern edge of the Kvarner Bay, facing the open Adriatic Sea, lies an all-season camping resort with many surprises. Croatia has over 1,000 islands. The most important for tourism nestle in the Kvarner Bay between Istria in the west and Dalmatia in the east. The elongated island duo of Cres and Lošinj, connected at Osor by a swing bridge only 10 metres long, invites you to go hiking, cycling, climb mountains, enjoy culture and discover pretty harbour towns. Of course, you can indulge in all kinds of water sports. Around 150 Adriatic dolphins cavort around the islands. A natural wonder of the Karst is the oval lake of Vrana on Cres, which supplies both islands with drinking water.

At the southern end of Lošinj, Camping Čikat spreads out in a 130-year-old pine forest. Above this bay with the very long but narrow rocky and pebbly beach typical of Croatia, the campsite rises up a steep hill. Most of the pitches have a view of the sea - the best view is undoubtedly from the well-equipped premium pitches on the lower three terraces. This is also where the design mobile homes are located, making your stay a glamping experience. The small Hotel Kredo, which belongs to the camp and is housed in an old villa, adds a pleasant architectural accent. In many respects, Camping Čikat holds a special position among the island campsites. First and foremost, there is the gigantic aqua park, which delights especially children and teenagers with its slides and water attractions, but where you can also calmly do your lane training. The best ice cream is served in the roof terrace bar with a great view.

The all-year-round opening is also undoubtedly special, all the more so because the latest sanitary facility, opened in 2018, scores points with heating and good winter-appropriate equipment. The restaurant and shop are open, and there are activity and health programmes.

The most important thing, however, is the walking distance to the lively town of Mali Lošinj, which does not die out even in winter thanks to its shipyard and liner service, as well as being the administrative centre. Although the winter here may not be quite as warm as in Andalusia or the Algarve, the thermometer rarely drops below 15° Celsius during the day. The sheltered location of the bay and the tall forest provide good protection against the sea breeze. In recent years, Camping Čikat has received extensive investments. For example, the restaurants have been overhauled, more luxury plots have been created and work has been done on the infrastructure.

For the "Camping cum Cane" programme, which includes dog trainers, dog beach, dog run, dog showers and poop bag dispensers, the campsite was awarded the coveted ADAC Camping Award in 2014. The Italian initiative "Village4All" has certified the site for guests with special needs, including a bathing lift for wheelchair users on the beach.

Emperor Franz-Josef ennobled the KuK island of Lötzing, Italian Lussignano, Croatian Lošinj as a climatic health resort in 1892. Modern science proves that pseudo-croup, COPD, asthma and other ailments improve on site. Today, the lung rehabilitation programme, which has been refined for 100 years, is carried out individually or in groups. There are 2- and 3-week programmes that take place on an outpatient basis at Vitality Hotel Punta in Veli Lošinj (5 km from the campsite, shuttle). That is one more reason for this one among the 1,000 Croatian islands.
