Proper ventilation and heating is not only indispensable at home, it should also be done in the motorhome. Especially when winter camping, proper heating and ventilation is important so that moisture does not remain in the motorhome.
Ventilation tips
It is recommended to open the windows and the body door several times a day for a few minutes (shock ventilation). This helps to prevent dampness in the motorhome, because the cold, dry outside air absorbs moisture when it warms up. Especially after an excursion in winter or after skiing, you should not hang up damp clothes to dry in the motorhome. Tip: Some winter campsites offer visitors drying rooms for their clothes.
Heating tips
The prerequisite for a warm motorhome is to have enough gas on board. If the heating runs continuously in freezing temperatures, an 11 kg gas bottle will last about two to three days. Thus, make sure you have enough gas on board or that there is a possibility to refill the gas bottles nearby or at the campsite. The gas bottles should be filled with propane, especially in winter, as this can be used at temperatures as low as -40°C.
Important: There is no uniform gas supply in the camping industry in Europe, so you should find out in advance which connection systems you need for your destination.
